In the wake of Hurricane Helene, forest landowners across the state have been getting assistance from the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC). Immediately following the storm, more than 250 personnel were dispatched in chainsaw and bulldozer strike teams to clear an estimated 40,000 miles of public access roads. Deliveries of cots, generators, water, tarps, and other supplies were made, along with refrigerator trucks and water storage containers. With an estimated 8.9 million forested acres affected, the total timber resource impact is $1.28 billion. GFC is the resource for the “Assess, Salvage, Restore” phase and can guide landowners toward their management goals at GaTrees.org.
