Georgia landowners impacted by Hurricane Helene have until Friday, Dec. 6, to apply for special cleanup funding. Aid includes $25 million through two programs coordinated by the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC), with separate applications required for each. The Fuels Mitigation Program and the Forest Access Road and Firebreak Restoration Project are intended to protect communities and reduce their wildfire risk. The declared disaster area included 91 counties and left a $1.28 billion impact on the state’s timber resource. Information can be found at gatrees.org.
The GFC is again partnering with Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation to recycle Christmas trees and encourage reforestation. Complimentary GFC seedlings will be given to those who recycle their trees at a KGBF location in January 2025.
