ACCG welcomes summer interns Jason Matt, Lynne Lancaster and Jennifer Gathercoal. Every semester, the association hires interns to assist policy and legal staff with various projects. Over the course of their internship through August, each intern will be given the opportunity to attend policy meetings, interact with ACCG staff and learn about county government issues.
Jennifer Gathercoal, legal intern, is a rising third-year law student at the University of Georgia and a lifelong resident of Gwinnett County. For her undergraduate degree, she attended Piedmont College, where she earned a B.A. in English. Upon receiving her law degree, Jennifer would like to pursue a career working in local government. During her tenure with ACCG, Jennifer will assist the legal staff by compiling and organizing content for a new legal webpage for the ACCG website, creating a resource guide for new county attorneys and providing legal research on a variety of topics.
Jason Matt, policy intern, is in his second year of the MPA program at the University of Georgia, where he is specializing in public budgeting and finance. Jason earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, with a minor in Sociology from Michigan State University. Upon completing his degree, Jason plans to work in state or local government budget and policy analysis. Prior to joining the ACCG intern program, Jason interned at the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget in the Stimulus Accountability Division. While at ACCG, he will be assisting the policy staff by attending policy meetings, updating county and city budget information for the 2011 ACCG LOST Guide, updating the ACCG Property Tax Video, creating databases and conducting research on various policy issues.
Lynne Laseter, policy intern, received her B.A. in Political Science and History from Piedmont College and will be attending law school at Washburn University in the fall. Lynne participated in the Georgia County Internship Program as a Morgan County intern last summer and recently completed the ACCG spring semester internship program. Over the summer, Lynne will assist the policy staff by creating resources to assist counties in understanding immigration law, providing research assistance related to criminal justice reform, attending policy meetings and providing general research assistance as needed.
