The Employee Safety Grant Program is a new program intended to provide financial assistance to members that participate in the ACCG Workers’ Compensation Fund. Grants are awarded to help fund members reduce workplace injuries through additional training, equipment or services. Eligible members are those that have had continuous membership in the Fund since 2014, have earned the 2019 Safety Discount, and are current on their premiums.
The grant program aims to help counties put safety first. Counties are unable to serve their constituents properly if their staff isn’t trained and protected from workplace hazards. With the grant program, eligible members can alleviate the costs associated with purchasing new equipment and training tools. Eligible requests range from personal protective equipment and body armor to fees for safety-related courses. Currently, more than 20 counties have submitted grant applications. The types of safety grants submitted include: water proof protective rain gear for the County Road Department; safety orientation video for new employees; bite and scratch resistant protective gloves and full face shields for public safety personnel; bunker coats and pants for volunteer firefighters; body armor and stab vests to protect police officers; and a defibulator for the county courthouse to help employees perform lifesaving methods until the EMS arrives.
Eligible members are encouraged to apply for reimbursement on purchases made to reduce employee injuries. Funds will not be distributed until all documentation (including receipts/proof of purchase) have been submitted and approved. Applications will be accepted until August 30, 2019 with all purchases to be made by December 1, 2019.
All questions about the grant program should be directed to Ashley Abercrombie at 404-589-7828. If you have an interest in joining the Fund, please contact Joe Dan Thompson at 404-589-7862.
