ACCG will kick off the policy development cycle for 2013 - 2014 legislative sessions with committee meetings throughout June and July. County officials that are interested in getting involved in policy development and understanding more about how county legislative positions are determined are encouraged to attend.

Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) Training, hosted by ACCG, will be offered June 14 in Bibb County and June 15 in Thomas County. The law requires counties and "qualified cities" receiving general purpose LOST revenue to renegotiate distribution agreements within two years of each census. The renegotiation process must begin on or before July 1, 2012.

Georgia law requires private employers that are seeking an occupation tax certificate (business license) or any other document required to operate a business with the county to register for and use E-Verify and to sign an E-Verify affidavit attesting to such. Private employers with 100 or more employees are subject to this requirement beginning onJuly 1, 2012.

The ACCG Property and Liability Board of Trustees, which oversees the member-owned property and liability insurance pool for the association, recently voted to return a dividend in the amount of $2 million in the form of a premium credit. This marks the tenth consecutive year that the program has returned a dividend.

Govenor Nathan Deal and the Georgia Department of Driver Services recently announced the launch of "Secure ID." Beginning July 1, customers who need to renew, reinstate or apply for their first Georgia Drivers License will have to visit a DDS Customer Service Center.
