Among many things addressed in this legislation was the enactment of a sales and use tax exemption for energy used in the manufacturing process. This exemption applies not only to state sales and use taxes but also to local sales tax levies like SPLOST and LOST, so local tax revenues will be impacted.

On Aug. 16, 2012, in the Class Action on behalf of Georgia Cities and Counties (with the exception of Atlanta and Columbus), a final order was entered approving a settlement agreement whereby Online Travel Companies will be paying hotel/motel tax from May 16, 2011 forward. On Nov 7, the Department of Community Affairs Board will consider adoption of an optional Disaster Resilient Construction Code. If adopted, counties would have the option of adopting these building codes through local ordinance. These codes would require construction to be more flood resistant and high-wind resistant.
