Among these bills is legislation that impacts county government such as ethics reform, juvenile justice reform and changes to the Forestland Protection Act. Due to the continuing budget difficulties at the state level, the General Assembly did not approve any cost of living adjustments (COLA) for 2014. However, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs has issued a new population estimate for Georgia counties. Counties now have until Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, to submit their nomination for an ACCG leadership and/or partnership and advocacy award. The county governing authority is required to set and publish the qualifying fees for county offices by Feb. 1, 2014. All county commissioners should adopt a resolution setting the qualifying fee for each county office. ACCG has provided an explanation of how to calculate the fees.

Fifteen classes that were previously a part of the ACCG training program, including the nine classes that make up the Core component of the Lifelong Learning Academy, were redesigned with adult education principles in mind and will focus more on engaged, interactive learning. In addition, 12 brand new classes entered into the curriculum design process, most of which will make their debut in 2014!
