The United States Environmental Protection Agency is offering a Brownfields grant writing workshop to newly awarded 2014 Brownfields grant recipients. Consultants and communities interested in learning more about the Brownfields program will have the opportunity to participate in the conference.

Join LGRMS to learn how local law enforcement leaders reduce risks within their agencies. This six-hour workshop is targeted toward agency heads, command staff, supervisors, and those who administer or manage the law enforcement liability issues for cities and counties. ACCG welcomes new fall policy interns Emily Lauter and David Johnson. Each semester, the association hires interns to assist the policy and legal staff with various projects. Over the course of their internship through December, each intern will be given the opportunity to attend policy meetings, interact with ACCG staff and learn about county government issues.

A partnership to expand and update dozens of courses in ACCG's Lifelong Learning Academy for county government leaders continues apace with faculty from the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Design work began this month on three courses—Leadership in Local Government, City-County Relations, and Improving Organizational Effectiveness. So far, Institute faculty have helped revise 52 ACCG courses, with 24 more scheduled for redesign through next June. The curriculum development process started in August 2013, and new training courses will be unveiled at conferences well into 2016.

Twenty-two administrative assistants graduated Oct. 2 from an Executive Support Professionals (ESP) Leadership Course for Cobb County government presented by the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The 10-day course began Aug. 14 and gave ESP participants an opportunity to develop their leadership skills in areas such as managing change, effective communication, project management and working collaboratively. The ESP class represented a variety of Cobb County departments including property management, public safety, community development, elections and senior services.
