April's spotlight is shining bright on Georgia Tech student Averie Lico and her exciting internship with the Clayton County Office of Planning, Zoning & Sustainability Department. During her internship, she learned of the importance of county government and the impact it can have on the community.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson invites you to attend the Opioid Summit 3.0 in an effort to preserve our youth and families. The summit will be held in DeKalb County at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts & Community Center on Thursday, May 2. This event is FREE to attend and open to the public. 

Encourage the fire chiefs in your community to attend the 6th Rural Fire Chief Seminar being held at the Columbia County Fire Rescue on Saturday, October 26. This seminar is designed to equip rural firefighteers with tools and resources to better protect the community and properly address obstacles most rural firefighters encounter on a daily basis. 

Oconee Street School was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. The school is deemed significant due to it being the only remaining example of the early 20th century school construction boom in Athens. In addition, it was one of the first primary schools in the Athens City Schools system.
