UnderWater magazine is seeking feature stories and photography covering subjects of broad significance to the commercial diving industry. Possible article topics include, but are not limited to: safety, new techniques, new equipment, equipment reviews, recent projects, etc. Special attention will be given to articles highlighting safety; however, all topics of general interest to diving contractors will be considered. Photography accompanying your story is welcome and encouraged. Here is a chance to highlight and share some of the notable accomplishments of your company or school.

If you are interested in supplying photography to be used within UnderWater’s pictorial features, please supply brief captions, along with the credit information of either the photographer or your company. See the photography guidelines below.

Please understand that the editorial plan set forth by the editorial board determines the availability of space for articles. If you would like to submit stories or photography for consideration in UnderWater, please contact Sean Garrity at sgarrity@naylor.comor (800) 369-6220, ext. 3442.

Writing Guidelines:
Articles should be between 500 and 3,000 words. Longer pieces will be considered, depending on available space.

Articles should be formatted in Microsoft Word, and sent via email to sgarrity@naylor.com.

Photography Guidelines:
Hard Copy Prints
For hard copy prints, please write any identifying and/or caption information on sticky notes and attach the notes to the backs of the photos. We ask that you not write directly on the backs of the photos or use tape to attach paper to the photos, as these practices may compromise our ability to make high-quality reproductions.

Electronic or Digital Images:
Electronic illustrations (digital images) must be a minimum resolution of 300 dpi at the actual image size. Scanned images of less than 300 dpi do not have enough detail to print well. We likely will not be able to use electronic images scanned at less than 300 dpi.

Electronic images may be submitted in any of the common image formats: .tiff, .eps, .jpg, .gif, etc. We cannot accept files in Powerpoint (.ppt), Word Clipart (.clp) and MicrosoftPublisher (.pub).

The 2014 ADCI Scholarship Fund Raffle will feature a KM 37 – Stainless Steel (SS) helmet, a state-of- the-art diving harness, and Miller weight belt.  The helmet was donated by Kirby Morgan, and will be signed by Bev Morgan at U.I. 2014.  The diving harness and weight belt was donated by Divers Supply, Inc.

Tickets for the raffle are $25.00 a piece, and can be purchased from the ADCI office and at U.I. 2014, prior to the last day of the show on 13 February 2014.

For those who are not familiar with the ADCI Scholarship Fund, the fund was set up to assist students with pursuing their higher educational or vocational goals with an award of $4000.00.  Eligibility requirements are provided with the formal announcement that goes out each year.  The Chairperson for the ADCI Scholarship Committee is Mrs. Dori Ritter of Dive Commercial International, Inc.

Any ADCI member company can sponsor a student for award consideration by the Scholarship Committee.   I challenge all ADCI member companies to provide a contribution to the fund.  No amount is too small.  It is our one chance to give back to the community to support our most valuable asset, today’s youth.

INDUSTRY NEWS
CDL, a leading provider of subsea monitoring equipment, today announces that it has joined forces with 3D at Depth, underwater LiDAR system specialists, to create a joint venture.  The partnership reinforces the commitment of both companies to support the growing needs of the subsea oil and gas industry.

By combining the technical innovation of 3D at Depth with the significant market presence of CDL, the joint venture will allow the two companies to introduce a comprehensive range of underwater scanning technology.

CDL and 3D at Depth have been working together for quite some time on CDL’s most recent product launch - INSCAN, the world’s 3D scanning subsea laser designed for use in the oil and gas industry.  3D at Depth’s Chief Technologist and Partner, Carl Embry, says of the venture "3D at Depth is excited to formalize our relationship with CDL.  CDL’s knowledge of the marketplace and their global presence has enabled a successful launch of our technology into the industry this year.  The industry reception has been incredible and the future looks very bright.  We are excited to be able to give even more proven results with several trials and projects planned in 2013 all around the globe."

The new laser scanning technology offers subsea angle and range measurements at tens of meters with proven sub-centimeter accuracy.  The resulting 3D point cloud can be viewed at the surface within minutes of a scan.  Application uses such as Brown field scanning/as-builts, metrology functions, pipeline inspections and change error detection are available now.  Expect to also add vibration measurement to INSCAN’s function list in 2014. The sensor is mountable on ROV/AUV systems and Static sea floor tooling frames to suit all applications of subsea measurements.

"CDL continues to enhance and expand our global presence," comments CDL’s CEO Colin Crichton.  "Our new joint venture with 3D at Depth will increase our capabilities and allow us to grow exponentially.  This agreement is fully aligned to CDL’s vision of providing the most innovative and high quality equipment to our customers."

About CDL: CDL, headquartered in Aberdeen Scotland, is a global engineering company dedicated to becoming the world’s leading provider of innovative engineered solutions supporting the dynamic challenges of the subsea industry.  CDL also operates within the Oil and Gas, Defence, Commercial Marine, and Yachting industries.  CDL solution offerings include Inertial Navigation for both Subsea and Surface (Offshore and Onshore) applications, Positioning Systems, Remote & Topside Data Collection, Attitude (Heading, Pitch & Roll Sensors) Sensing, and Data Transfer.

About 3D at Depth: 3D at Depth, based in Boulder Colorado, develops underwater laser based sensors and solutions.  Using patented and proprietary Depth Perception™ technology, the solutions offer high resolution, survey quality data collection for the oil and gas, civil engineering, environmental and cultural preservation markets.
