It was decided to ask for the support of our industry as a whole, given the significance of Dan Wilson's lifelong work. The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is excited about creating a special display with Purisima to supplement existing diving and early offshore oil industry exhibits.

All of us were excited about the possibility of ADCI membership sponsoring this unique display that will honor our industry and a man who dared to "think outside of the box." Additionally, the display will be a significant representation of ADCI and commercial diving for tourists and visitors at the museum.

Project manager Kenneth Goldman said he uses the camera-equipped robot, called a remotely operated vehicle, to count yelloweye rockfish and lingcod. The robot itself is a bit bigger than a hard rifle case and weighs 300 pounds outside of the water. Research biologists operate the unmanned robot from a boat with a set of joysticks on a movable console.

REGULATORY NEWS
The Federal Government is preparing to reform its shipping registry and maritime laws, paving the way to bring more locally owned vessels under its jurisdiction and boost the nation’s shipping sector. An amendment to the nation’s maritime laws has been drafted by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and submitted to the UAE Government, and the provisions could become law by the end of this year.

"We are revamping the whole registry," said Nasser Saif al Mansoori, the director general of the NTA. "We intend to operate as an international flag on similar lines as Singapore, the Marshall Islands, Denmark and Norway."
The new provisions include a more flexible approach to crewing and taxes while not compromising on safety and security, officials said.
