It was decided to ask for the support of our industry as a whole, given the significance of Dan Wilson's lifelong work. The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is excited about creating a special display with Purisima to supplement existing diving and early offshore oil industry exhibits.

All of us were excited about the possibility of ADCI membership sponsoring this unique display that will honor our industry and a man who dared to "think outside of the box." Additionally, the display will be a significant representation of ADCI and commercial diving for tourists and visitors at the museum.

Petrobras announces that the drilling of the ninth well in the Tupi area, in the pre-salt of Santos Basin, completed recently, confirms the potential of recoverable light oil and natural gas in that deposit, estimated to be between five to eight billion barrels of oil equivalent. This well confirms that the oil accumulation not only extends to the extreme south of the Tupi Evaluation Plan area, but also that the thickness of the reservoir containing oil measures approximately 128 meters, which reduces the uncertainties of the volume of hydrocarbons in the area.

NEW PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY
Aboard ocean-faring vessels, real estate is naturally limited. But communications are vital, presenting something of a conundrum for a ship's communications crews: where to place all the large antennas necessary for long-range (and often encrypted) communications. So U.S. Navy R&D lab SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) engineered a clever scheme to turn the ocean's most abundant resource into communications equipment, making antennas out of geysers of seawater.

As any engineer will tell you, developing the engineering concepts for a novel energy production device is an iterative process. For ocean energy, this process is further complicated as any device destined to generate electricity from the marine environment must be sufficiently robust to survive the extremely harsh conditions, all the while maintaining complex operations at sea.

Reduce the number of electronic failures by improving the methods of sealing connectors to protect against corrosion

Connectors are the most vulnerable points in a circuit. Corrosion, from either oxidation or galvanization, reduces current-carrying capacity and results in intermittent, and ultimately permanent, failure of the circuit. In harsh environments, the major cause of connector failure is galvanic corrosion, a process in which dissimilar metals give up or collect electrons in the presence of an electrolyte.

Digital video to support subsea pipeline and structural inspections has been around for more than a decade now and has become well-established offshore. However, the quality of results and the time to conduct surveys is highly dependent on water turbidity, lighting and the ability of remotely operated vehicle (ROV) pilots to locate and navigate to inspection targets efficiently.
