Except where noted, all new certification and equipment requirements will take effect immediately. Noted changes to take effect after formal adoption of this document will be annotated by a superscript (1, 2, or 3) after the stated requirement.

The legend for the superscript is as follows:

1 – Compliance required after 6 months from 7 July 2011
2 – Compliance required after 12 months from 7 July 2011
3 – Compliance required after 24 months from 7 July 2011

• Any General or Associate Member company that is in good standing with the ADCI is eligible to run as a candidate for the Board of Directors. 

• Candidates may nominate themselves or may be nominated by another ADCI member.

• All nominees must sign a written statement that they will accept the nomination and that they understand the duties and responsibilities of the office.

• Name, address and a short biography of the candidates (both company and representative) are also required.

The National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology is pleased to announce a DMT refresher training course. It is scheduled for January 25/26, 2012 and will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. This unique training opportunity is organized and sponsored by the National Board and will coincide with Underwater Intervention 2012, the Association of Diving Contractors International’s annual conference.
 
Several diving medical specialists have agreed to speak. The National Board is also very grateful to Safety Management Systems, a division of Acadian Companies, and headquartered in Lafayette, LA. SMS agreed to make available several of its instructors and all necessary manikins for the clinical and diagnostic skills sessions.
 
A registration fee of $75.00 will cover all course materials, lunch (Cajun style) daily, coffee and sodas throughout each day, and a DMT t-shirt.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates numerous navigation locks and dams across the country. Age and lack of funds to maintain these structures has led to significant increases in unscheduled outages. Dewatering provides the best inspection opportunity but is costly and halts navigation traffic. Diver inspections are costly, and safety is an issue. Frequent underwater inspections using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) would help reduce the number and severity of unscheduled outages at low cost, with little impact on navigation and few safety concerns. ROV use was documented at two Corps facilities and one public utility district and their costs were compared with inspections using divers or dewatering. In each case, benefits from reduced labor costs, shipping delays, and lost power production far exceed the amortized costs of the ROVs. The payback period for purchasing an ROV can be less than one year, and their easy deployment encourages more frequent inspections. ROV technology can immediately help to improve Corps asset management and public safety assurance through increased underwater inspections. Most Corps navigation facilities should own a small ROV, costing about $30K, to conduct visual inspections. Also, the Corps should partner with vendors to improve ROV internal navigation and to integrate real-time position, sensor data, and visual images within 3-D virtual representations of its structures.

Schilling Robotics, LLC, experts in subsea systems, announced today the order for two (2) Heavy-Duty™ (HD™) ROV systems from maritime operator SMIT. The HD™ systems will be rated for 4,000m and will be supplied with tether management systems (TMS), control vans, and launch and recovery systems (LARS). SMIT will install the HD™ ROV systems onboard their subsea diving support vessels in support of the company’s expanding global subsea operations. The systems will be delivered first quarter of 2012.

Ensco has entered into a drilling contract for ENSCO 120 (400′ ILC), an ultra-premium harsh environment jackup rig. The initial contract is with Nexen Petroleum for their Golden Eagle development in the Central North Sea for 10 wells with an estimated initial contract value of approximately $120 million. Contract commencement is scheduled for fourth quarter 2013 following systems integration testing and mobilization. Nexen may extend the term through 11 one-well options that would increase the contract value by an estimated $140 million.

BHP Billiton plans to invest roughly US $4.5 billion developing the shale oil and gas assets it bought in the U.S. this financial year as it ramps up production, the head of the mining company’s petroleum division said Monday.
BHP expects capital spending to jump to almost US $6 billion in the 2015 fiscal year and roughly US $6.5 billion by 2020 as the company ramps up the number of rigs on its four project areas, Michael Yeager said in a conference call from Melbourne.
