The ADCI Commercial Diving Hall of Fame was established in 2004 with the first inductees being those persons who had previously received either the John B. Galletti or Tom Devine Memorial Awards. The Hall of Fame is intended to "recognize and honor individuals whose dedication and accomplishments have significantly contributed to commercial diving through a life time of dedication." There’s a James Bond-style aura around the types of exploratory remote machines that software engineer Sandy Takacs helps develop. The wreck of the submarine HMS Olympus, which sank after hitting a mine off Grand Harbour 70 years ago in one of the worst naval disasters of World War II, has been identified by the Aurora Trust. The trust, an archaeological team located at Key Largo, Florida, with its logistic base in Malta, reports that the submarine is in a rather good condition and lies upright on the seabed with its hatch open.

Two scuba diving enthusiasts have found what they believe to be a 200-year-old shipwreck in the waters off Rhode Island in the United States.
The vessel is thought to be the USS Revenge and was discovered one mile off the coast of the island in New England during a wreck diving excursion.

A leading tidal power developer has revealed it is in talks to create a new marine energy farm capable of producing both wind and tidal power, in a bid to cut costs and boost the reliability of intermittent green energy technologies.

Tim Cornelius, chief executive of Atlantis Resources, told BusinessGreen that the company is already in talks with suppliers of transmission components, such as cabling and converters, to examine the feasibility of building a combined project from scratch or adding its own tidal turbines onto an existing offshore wind farm.

Dutch-based heavy lift and offshore specialist Huisman has delivered the 600 metre/tonne wind turbine installation crane onboard GeoSea’s DP2 jack-up vessel ‘Neptune’. The crane was handed over to the vessel builder IHC Offshore and Marine BV.

The multi-component seismic company Reservoir Exploration Technology ASA (RXT) has received a contract award from an international oil company for an Ocean Bottom Cable survey offshore Norway.

Milan, February 16, 2012. Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cables and systems industry, has been awarded a record contract worth approximately 800 million Euro, the highest value ever awarded in the cable business, for the development of Western HVDC Link, a new submarine High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnector between Scotland and England. The whole turnkey project will be executed by a consortium of Prysmian and Siemens who will be responsible for the HVDC converter stations.

Fugro GRL’s DeepWorks simulator has been enhanced to allow users to model friction acting on dynamic bodies such as cables and ROVs when they come into contact with each other or with the seabed. This adds realism to subsea simulations. Friction is an important component in forecasting the behaviour of moving and stationary subsea objects. DeepWorks now calculates friction forces resulting from any forces acting on the body including gravity.
