The ADCI is saddened to report the passing of Sylvester (Willy) Wilson and Walter (Whitey) Stephens. Willy was a longtime DIT instructor and icon in the industry. Whitey was a 2007 inductee to the ADCI Commercial Hall of Fame. The ADCI extends its condolences and deepest sympathies to the friends and family of both men. They will be greatly missed.

KBA Training Centre (KBAT) has now re-located their commercial diver training centre to TOLL Offshore Supply Base in Loyang from SAF Yacht Club Changi, originally the centre was officially opened by Mr. Wong Weng Sun, President & CEO of Sembcorp Marine Ltd, in February 2015. The move was essential as the government has claimed back to develop the Changi land area, nevertheless the new location at this Loyang base jetty will prove to be a better training venue as it is in the marine/offshore working environment.

Heath Hescock has been appointed Robotics Engineer at Greensea, creator of the universal marine industry operating platform OPENSEA. Hescock will lead the hardware integration process at Greensea and is primarily responsible for providing Greensea's production staff with software support.

Dorota Bankowska, a professional diver, married teacher James Abbott in her home town of Plock in Poland last month but wanted to do something in Scotland where they both live and work. Mrs Abbott had trained at The Underwater Centre on the shores of Loch Linnhe in 2007 and approached its staff about hosting the special occasion. With a growing emphasis on remote, or "diverless" operations — using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), remotely operated tools, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and the like — it might seem that the need for putting men in the water would come to an end. Far from it. With two of the main subsea contractors each bringing new "state-of-the-art" diving support vessels into the North Sea this year, however, and new safety-orientated technology about to come into the market, the diving industry is not about to disappear. To paraphrase Mark Twain, rumours of its demise have been greatly exaggerated. Such rumours, though, are hardly new.

JW Fishers Mfg. said it will introduce a new underwater metal detector for 2017: the SAR-1 Search and Recovery metal detector. Developed as a result of extensive product testing and customer feedback, the new detector was specially designed for use by public safety dive teams, law enforcement agencies and military units that need to locate metal objects in poor visibility underwater environments.

EPA enforcement is becoming a more prevalent issue for vessels importing into the U.S. This has been in the regulations for a while but has rarely been enforced. Before a few weeks ago we had only been asked two or three times in 15 years for the EPA conformity of the engines in a boat.
Within the last month U.S. Customs and Border Protection has started requesting this on a regular basis and in Miami, Customs is requiring the WPA 3520-21 Engine declaration form be submitted at the time the importation is filed or they will not accept the entry.
