Subsea 7 has finalised the acquisition of Toisa Pegasus, a multi-purpose offshore construction and dive support vessel. The 2009-built vessel is to be renamed Seven Pegasus and will primarily support Subsea 7’s operations in the North Sea and Asia Pacific.

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is introducing a new web-based method for collecting safety statistics from its contractor members. This will result in simpler, more timely reporting, and the ability to easily benchmark performance.

The annual awards, which are hosted by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section, give recognition to the best talent, performance and innovation in the offshore energy industry.

However, Basant Bastawy, a 26-year-old female oil engineer, chose to break the taboos of the only-for-men career. Specialized in the metals department in Suez Canal University, Bastawy dreamt of working in the underwater welding when she was a student.

After diving commercially for 21 years, Shawn Bath noticed the amount of garbage, intentionally or otherwise, littering the bottoms of the harbours. Bath says the litter ranges from ghost nets to buckets and fish pans that were either lost or simply tossed into the water. He says that prompted him to launch the Clean Harbours Initiative.
