Over the last several months, our Chapter President, David Ferris, has been working with Dale Allen, Executive Director for Florida Greenways and Trails Foundation (FGTF), on ways to have Landscape Architects more involved with their organization, the development of the Coast-to-Coast Connector and other greenways and trails being developed all across Florida. We are pleased to announce that at their June meeting, FGTF approved having FLASLA join their Board.
All FLASLA members interested in representing the Chapter on the Florida Greenways Trails Foundation Board, please submit a brief summary of your qualifications to David Ferris (president@flasla.org). Volunteer Description The Chapter is currently seeking a motivated volunteer that would like to represent FLASLA and the profession at FGTF meetings. Therefore, preference may be given to members that live/work in these regions for this initial appointment. Commitment FLASLA is looking for someone that can commit to attend FGTF's quarterly meetings (three meetings in Central Florida and one meetings in Tallahassee) and any FGTF conference calls. It is anticipated this appointment will be for three years. Appointees will be a defacto member of our Government Affairs Committee and our newly formed Greenways and Trails Committee. Background The Florida Greenways and Trails Foundation is a Citizen Support Organization for the Office of Greenways & Trails, and intended to receive private monies to assist in the development and promotion of a statewide system of greenways and trails. The Foundation seeks to raise public awareness of Florida’s existing greenways and trails and foster the development of a connected state system. To realize this connected system, the Foundation develops strategic partnerships with a variety of organizations and provides information and assistance to the Florida State Parks, Office of Greenways and Trails, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Florida Department of Transportation. The Foundation’s Board raises and invests resources to promote a statewide system and support greenways and trails that further economic benefits, offer safe transportation alternatives, improve access to Florida’s parks, preserves, and scenic byways, and enhance healthy recreational opportunities for our citizens and visitors. Since its inception, the Board has raised more than one million dollars to support programs and projects. For more information, visit the Foundation's website. |
