Adam McCollister, Member at Large for Public Relations and Marketing, represented Florida ASLA at the 2016 National ASLA Public Awareness Summit in Charleston, SC. This was the first year in the history of the summit that all 49 Chapters were in attendance!

One major goal of the Summit was to evaluate the 2015 national campaigns, World Landscape Architecture Month and Park[ing] Day, as well as brainstorm any future campaign ideas.

  • What was successful?
  • What are some things we can do to improve these campaigns in 2016?
Another major goal was to share ideas between chapters:
  • What are some things other chapters have done that have been successful in public outreach, member communication, member recruitment, etc?
  • How can we continue to educate the general public about landscape architecture?
  • What can we do to increase the enrollment of landscape architecture students in our universities?

Approximately 12 hours of brainstorming and communication produced a great deal of ideas and inspiration. Keep your eyes and ears open for future opportunities to get involved, and please don’t hesitate to share your ideas! It’s an exciting time to be a landscape architect!
