GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
H.R. 2424, the Community Parks Revitalization Act was introduced in Congress last month. This bill provides assistance to local communities for the rehabilitation and construction of critical community parks infrastructure. ASLA, along with the National Recreation and Parks Association, issued a statement commending the bill.

The Safe Streets Act of 2013 (H.R. 2468, a bipartisan measure, was introduced in Congress last month. This bill would ensure that our nation’s roadways are built with all users in mind – including bicyclists, public transportation riders, motorists and pedestrians of all ages and abilities – and would call on States and metropolitan planning organizations to implement a Complete Streets policy within two years that ensures all new federally funded transportation projects accommodate the safety and convenience of all users. ASLA will be working with Chapters on targeted advocacy efforts to gain congressional cosponsors for the Safe Streets Act.
