A brief President’s Message this month, as we prepare to gather in downtown Jacksonville August 4-6 to celebrate our profession by learning, sharing ideas, commiserating, and finding inspiration. Creativity: Art, Nature, History and Innovation, the theme of the 2016 Conference, is truly expressed in the tours, keynote speakers and education sessions that our conference committee has organized and developed.

Welcome to the 25th piece of my Trustee report series where I share a few notes and items from our national organization over the last month or so. Remind people who may have lapsed in their membership to rejoin and that payment options are available. Please feel free to contact me at Trustee@FLASLA.org if you have any questions or concerns about ASLA issues.
I look forward to seeing you all in Jacksonville for Conference August 4th – 6th. There are many engaging speakers and some really special tours. Do attend if you are not already doing so.
Did you sign up to volunteer on a National committee? President-Elect Vaughn Rinner will be making final selections in August. It is always nice to see Florida members participate.....as it should be since we are one of the large chapters.

All of the 2016 Annual Meeting courses have been submitted to the Florida Board of Landscape Architecture. While National has not heard back from them about what has been approved, in the past, nearly everything has been approved for optional credit by the board with the exception of a few of the general sessions and workshops, and sometimes one or two of the field sessions. Later this summer National will update the Annual Meeting website to reflect the credits for which courses are approved by BOLA so if you are planning on attending the 2016 Annual Meeting, check their website often to see which classes have received final approval.

This article is adapted from a talk by The Cultural Landscape Foundation’s President and CEO, Charles Birnbaum, delivered on June 10 at the Landscape Architecture Foundation’s Summit on Landscape Architecture and the Future. The CLF was pleased to take part in the summit and congratulates the Landscape Architecture Foundation on its 50th anniversary.
Follow the link to read the article, which speaks succinctly of ASLA’s mission for historic landscape preservation:

The 2016 Florida ASLA State Conference will feature a "Build Your Own CEC Schedule". This means you will simply walk into any of the classes that you wish to attend and they will scan your name badge, which will contain all your information in the form of a digital QR Code. This will insure that you receive credit for the classes that you attend and should provide a smoother process overall.
