I was excited to cap World Landscape Architecture Month by attending the ASLA Chapter President’s Council Midyear Meeting in Washington D.C. The three days of meetings with our ASLA staff members and the rest of the leaders throughout the country was inspiring and energizing. Many of our Chapters face the same challenges and successes, and I was proud to share the wonderful things we are doing in Florida. It was also exciting to tour the newly renovated ASLA Headquarters and Center for Landscape Architecture. The Garden Level was sponsored by the Florida Chapter, which is prominently displayed as you enter.

Advocacy

Your Florida Chapter representatives alongside thousands of ASLA advocates from across the country, traveled to Capitol Hill to advocate for policies important to landscape architects. During the congressional visits, they worked to raise the visibility of the profession with legislators and key staff, and educate them on the many ways that landscape architects provide solutions to some of the problems facing our communities. The Florida Chapter team has just returned home, so keep an eye out for a more detailed report in next month’s newsletter. Harley Martinez, FLASLA President-Elect Deena Bell Llewellyn, and UF Student Chapter rep. Daniel Rodriguez.
