Message from AHVAP President-Elect
I recently received a gift from a friend, In Fear is my Homeboy. What a special gift from a special friend and one that is so personal for me right now. As you have read my articles over the last several months, you have noticed my interest in “courage and bravery” in both my personal and professional lives. In this book, Judi Holler shares many strategies for turning fear into courage and bravery and demonstrates how you can then use that shift from fear as your “secret weapon.”
Holler challenges us to rethink how we reflect on fear and courage. She goes on to stress the importance of shift of mindset when we move from a position of fear and doubt to a place of “why not” and “gratitude.” Mel Robbins once said, “you are one decision away from a completely different life.” What a powered statement from the famous coach and change agent. You are personally and professionally one decision away from a path to greatness and gratitude.
For some of us, having courage, being brave and having a sense of gratitude requires a change in our “self-talk.” The things we tell ourselves each and every day: you cannot take that leap, or that others are smarter, faster or more equipped than you. We overthink, worry, obsess, stress and in the end take no action. We are incapacitated by our own thinking and not taking the courageous steps to imagine everything we can become.
You might be wondering why this article is about fear and courage. As we reflect on the last nine months for AHVAP and the amazing path AHVAP has ahead, I ask you to reflect on both courage and gratitude personally and professionally. Our time is now! For Value Analysis as a profession, the time is now!
Let us all join in our courageous AHVAP journey! Just imagine…….
