My daughter recently started her freshman year in high school, and she was understandably nervous but excited for her new adventure. She went from a small-town school with the same 50+ kids in her grade since kindergarten to a school with more than 700 students. Since she came from such a small school, opportunities outside the classroom (clubs and such) were limited. Now, there is so much her new school has to offer: a club for any interest. Knowing all the choices at her new school, I advised her to take advantage of every opportunity and learn from it. This advice holds in today's dynamic and competitive professional landscape. Success often hinges on more than just meeting the minimum requirements of your job. It's about embracing opportunities, going above and beyond, and leaning into work challenges to help you stand out and advance in your career.

Going above and beyond begins with adopting a growth mindset. This mindset encourages you to see every task, project, or challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. When you approach it with this attitude, you'll be more inclined to take on new responsibilities and tackle unfamiliar tasks, contributing to your development. Opportunities can come in the form of new projects, collaborations, or even additional responsibilities. Instead of shying away from these challenges, embrace them. By leaning into these opportunities, you expand your skill set, gain valuable experience, and position yourself as a proactive and versatile team member. This networking can lead to beneficial relationships that extend beyond your current role. Building a broad professional network can open doors to new opportunities, provide mentorship, and enhance your overall career prospects. I am so proud to be part of an organization like AHVAP. This organization has many offerings that allow me to learn, grow, and lean into many different opportunities. I hope you take the time to see all the development classes offered and ways to enhance your knowledge base.

Finally, thanks to great leadership and management, AHVAP remains financially strong and grows by the day. Here is a brief financial snapshot for the month of August:

  • Total Dues Income: $10,586

  • Total Education Income: $448
