To Be Different, You Have to Think Different:
The Power of Different Value Analysis Thinking

Dear AHVAP Members and Colleagues:

In today's healthcare landscape, value analysis plays a crucial role in optimizing resources while improving patient outcomes. In the past, traditionally focused on cost-effectiveness and clinical efficacy, value analysis is evolving to encompass broader dimensions of value, integrating different thinking to address complex challenges. AHVAP is pivotal in advancing healthcare value analysis by promoting collaboration with providers including physicians, standardization, education, advocacy, quality improvement, cost management, innovation, and ethical practices. AHVAP now welcomes over twenty physician providers to our membership, and we look forward to welcoming additional providers.

By supporting members' professional growth and development and advocating for best practices in value analysis, AHVAP contributes to enhancing patient care, operational efficiency, and overall healthcare quality. To be profoundly different in value analysis you must think differently— challenge assumptions, explore new possibilities, and pioneer transformative change that drives excellence in healthcare delivery.

AHVAP emphasizes collaboration, evidence-based decision-making, and cost-effective utilization of resources. Different value analysis thinking complements these principles by encouraging innovative approaches to procurement, utilization management, and decision-making processes. By integrating different thinking, AHVAP members can explore new avenues to include physicians in our value analysis processes, enhance supplier relationships, and ensure that products and services align with patient needs and organizational goals.

Value analysis is not just about products and services but also about the people involved—patients, healthcare providers, clinicians, supply chain, and others. Different value analysis thinking involves actively seeking input from these stakeholders including physicians to understand their needs, preferences, and pain points. By fostering a culture of collaboration and co-creation with value analysis and AHVAP, healthcare organizations can design solutions that are not only cost-effective and clinically sound but also responsive to the human aspects of care delivery.

Different value analysis thinking, when integrated with value analysis principles and the quadruple aim framework, holds the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery. AHVAP and Value Analysis Professionals hold significant importance for healthcare organizations and the delivery of the highest quality healthcare by embracing different value analysis thinking. This thinking is not just a strategic advantage—it is essential for advancing the quadruple aim and driving meaningful change in healthcare.

Different value analysis thinking fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within healthcare organizations. AHVAP members and Value Analysis professionals can leverage different thinking to pilot new initiatives, experiment with alternative approaches, and change course based on feedback and outcomes. This iterative process not only drives innovation but also ensures that value analysis practices evolve in response to changing healthcare needs, technological advancements, regulatory requirements, and healthcare value analysis excellence.

Our recent example of AHVAP’s continued path to excellence is Dr. Hudson Garrett earning the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential. The CAE designation from ASAE's Center for Association Leadership offers association executives a pathway to professional credibility, career advancement, ongoing learning, leadership development, networking opportunities, and global recognition. It serves as a mark of excellence in association management and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practice in the field. This accomplishment demonstrates to the healthcare industry AHVAP's organizational dedication to excellence.

Sincerely,

Karen Niven, MS, BSN, RN, FACHDM, CVAHP™, FNAP, FAHVAP
