AHVAP Announces New Strategic Management Agreement and Executive Director

Based on member feedback and the evolving needs of our growing Association, AHVAP is adopting a new model for Association Management that builds a comprehensive network of experts to accomplish the evolving needs of our Association. This new structure will be broken into three primary categories of expertise, which include: 

On December 31, 2022, our current contract with Capitol Hill Management Services, our current association management firm, will expire, and all management firm operations will shift to Community Health Associates. On behalf of the entire AHVAP Leadership Team, we would like to thank Capitol Hill Management Services team, Meagan Bowker, our outgoing Executive Director, and her team for their management of the Association over the past five years. This transition will be invisible to our AHVAP members and external stakeholders due to the extensive preparation efforts of the transition team. 

Community Health Associates was formed 15 years ago to help champion systemic change across the healthcare continuum of care through education, training, scholarship, and clinical innovation. Community Health Associates holds the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Certified Business designation and is certified by the Better Business Bureau. Community Health Associates is also an Organizational Member of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. 

Over the last two months, AHVAP has embarked on an intense transformation process to prepare the Association for the future of healthcare value analysis and increase its agility. Here are a few selected accomplishments achieved over just the past 60 days in partnership with our new strategic management partner:

As such, we are pleased to announce Dr. Hudson Garrett as our new Executive Director and Executive Vice President. Dr. Garrett brings to AHVAP a wealth of professional experience not only in the medical field but also in the nonprofit leadership and management space. Dr. Garrett is the President and CEO of Community Health Associates, a boutique healthcare consulting firm focused on infectious diseases. Additionally, he holds faculty appointments as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is a Consultant Faculty Member for the Norton Infectious Diseases Institute. He has completed graduate training in healthcare administration and policy, nonprofit leadership, nursing, infectious diseases, patient safety, and change management. He has extensive leadership experience in the medical industry, most notably serving over ten years as a Vice President of Clinical Affairs for PDI and Global Chief Clinical Officer for Pentax Medical. His unique background makes him an excellent fit for the AHVAP family as he can bring the perspectives of our healthcare members together with the clinical innovation that is driven through our supplier partners, which is what makes AHVAP such a unique professional Association due to this collaboration. 

Dr. Garrett completed the Johns Hopkins Fellows Program in Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of National Associations of Directors of Nursing Administration and was selected as a Lifetime Member of the Association, the highest honor bestowed upon a member. He graduated from The Mayo Clinic and Hootsuite Healthcare Social Media Fellowship Program. Hootsuite is the industry-leading social media platform manager. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Project Management and a Senior Fellow and Ambassador of the Management and Strategy Institute. He is a Distinguished Fellow and Practitioner in the National Academies of Practices. Dr. Garrett is a graduate of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) 13-month Global Patient Safety Fellowship and graduate of the IHI Patient Safety Executive Development Program. In August 2021, Dr. Garrett was awarded the Fellowship Designation by the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America in recognition of his work in infectious diseases and infection prevention and control. In November 2021, he was awarded the Fellow Designation by the Infectious Diseases Society of America. In 2022, he achieved Fellows Status and Board Certification in Healthcare Management from the American College of Healthcare Executives. He holds graduate healthcare leadership certificates from Cornell and the University of Notre Dame. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Harvard Square Program. 

Dr. Garrett led the development of the first and only core infection prevention and control and antibiotic stewardship certifications and certificate of mastery programs in post-acute care settings. He has also received the Association for Training & Development Master Trainer Designation. He has served on international and national organizational boards in the areas of environmental services, dental infection control, infection control, acute care infection control, post-acute care infection control, and vascular access. He has collaborated with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and all of the major Group Purchasing Organizations. He has lectured in over 25 countries and published two books.

Dr. Garrett is an active member of the American Society of Association Executives, the Georgia Society of Association Executives, the Association for Talent Development, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Georgia College of Healthcare Executives, and the Institute for Credentialing Excellence.
