If you haven’t had a chance to read the white paper from the joint collaboration between AHVAP, Arizona State University College of Health Solutions and Gore that reviews the proceedings from the summit titled:
Building New Pathways for Value-Based Healthcare Access, Affordability, and Exceptional Care Outcomes
The paper leads off with the following statement from the preface that sets the tone of this comprehensive systems thinking approach to getting back to the path to value-based healthcare.
“…the face of healthcare both in the United States and around the world has been forever changed by the massive impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors recognize that while major changes have certainly occurred since the Summit, the primary goals and targeted outcomes articulated during the Summit are now even more important to the healthy functioning of our society: Improving Access to Care, Affordability of Healthcare, and Improved Patient Outcomes and Health.”

Has AHVAP considered all appropriate safety precautions for holding a live meeting?
Yes. From day one, AHVAP has planned all aspects of the annual conference as if it was being held during conditions that existed in January of 2021. Chief among them are frequent checks of current conditions from the CDC as well as those existing in the city and county in and around Scottsdale and those of the hotel.
See full list of Guidelines provided below and on the AHVAP website using this link: Safety Guidelines
How did AHVAP make their decision to hold a live meeting?
Unlike larger professional organizations, AHVAP attendance averages less than 300, which lends itself to better environmental management in a live setting. In true value analysis fashion, AHVAP weighed the feedback and performance from past meetings as well as attendee and supplier experience which influenced the organizational business decision to focus on a rewarding live meeting experience.

Struggles in Florida to get hospitals enough oxygen for influxes of COVID-19 patients are likely a harbinger of heightened medical supply shortages nationwide as coronavirus cases persist and the delta variant rages. Health centers in the state are grappling with shortages of drivers who can transport oxygen, a critical resource for hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and restrictions on how long they can be on the road. Industry professionals expect similar obstacles to expand around the U.S. for other essential supplies.

Southeast Asia experienced a major surge in Covid-19 cases last month that has shown little signs of slowing, and the situation is expected to delay most of the region’s economic recovery. Major economies in this part of the world including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines saw a sharp rise in daily reported cases and deaths from the disease in July.

ABC News
As the delta variant spreads, posing a heightened risk to everyone who isn't vaccinated, demand has skyrocketed for a vaccine that will protect young children who are not yet eligible -- a group facing more cases than ever before during the pandemic. And while experts still consider it uncommon for children to get severely sick from the virus, being unvaccinated leaves them more vulnerable. Over 94,000 children were diagnosed with COVID last week, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, and hospitals nationwide are reporting more and more children in their pediatric COVID units.

Hospitals coast to coast are demanding their employees get vaccinated against COVID as the highly contagious delta variant tears through populations with low vaccination rates. Nearly 1,500 hospitals — roughly a quarter of all hospitals in the U.S. —now require staffers to get a covid vaccine, said Colin Milligan, a spokesperson for the American Hospital Association. More follow suit every day as hospital leaders aim to head off staff shortages like those experienced last year and to keep employees from becoming vectors of the disease.

Fierce Healthcare
From diminishing wealth to unaddressed health needs, the COVID-19 pandemic hit those on the lower end of the income spectrum hardest. But while these populations have traditionally been underserved by the healthcare industry, growing awareness and technology opportunities have, at least temporarily, offered a silver lining to the people and communities hardest hit by social determinants of health (SDOH).

Moderna Inc. will build a plant to make messenger RNA vaccines in Canada under a deal with its government that could provide a template for increasing global capacity. The facility, announced Tuesday, will be built, owned and operated by Moderna, Chief Executive Stéphane Bancel said in an interview. He said the company is discussing building similar plants with countries in Europe and Asia, though he declined to say which ones.
