Leadership
The healthcare landscape is rapidly evolving, with the focus shifting from volume-based care to value-based care. In this transformation, healthcare value analysis plays a pivotal role in ensuring that every healthcare dollar spent contributes to improved patient outcomes and optimized resource utilization. Data and analytics are emerging as powerful tools in the pursuit of this goal, revolutionizing the way healthcare value is assessed, decisions are made, and resources are allocated.
In the world of leadership, competence stands as an unwavering cornerstone. It is the quality that underpins every successful leader, providing the foundation upon which great achievements are built. In this edition, we delve into the vital significance of competence in leadership, exploring how it shapes effective leaders and drives meaningful outcomes.
As I think about our amazing 2023 AHVAP National Conference and Industry Partner Expo and reflect on all the amazing networking, learning, sharing, laughing, talking, and listening, this quote from Winston Churchill rings so true: “Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.” There was so much positive energy during our time together that I cannot count all the wonderful moments.
My daughter recently started her freshman year in high school, and she was understandably nervous but excited for her new adventure. She went from a small-town school with the same 50+ kids in her grade since kindergarten to a school with more than 700 students. Since she came from such a small school, opportunities outside the classroom (clubs and such) were limited. Now, there is so much her new school has to offer: a club for any interest. Knowing all the choices at her new school, I advised her to take advantage of every opportunity and learn from it. This advice holds in today's dynamic and competitive professional landscape.
I am pleased to report the results of the recent Board of Directors election. These new officers were introduced by our 2024 President, Karen Niven, at last week’s Annual Conference and Industry Partner Expo.
Build a more resilient supply chain
ECRI Institute®
Ongoing shortages of critical medical devices highlight problems with the current “just in time” global supply chain model and the impact of local inventory on patient care. Building a resilient supply chain addresses these issues. To be successful, leaders need expert advice on how to navigate out-of-stock situations, evaluate and minimize category risk, and diversify for resiliency, which will ultimately drive an HRO model.

The nation’s donated blood supply is currently at “critically low levels,” and climate change is partly to blame. That’s according to the American Red Cross and other blood donation organizations, which say the floods, hurricanes and wildfires seen across the country this summer have prevented blood collection and contributed to a nationwide shortage.
Value-based care doesn’t stop at discharge
Molnlycke Health Care®
As the healthcare industry embraces a value-based care model, it’s time for Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) to reimagine patient transitions throughout the continuum of care. Lack of
standardization between acute and post-acute care creates opportunity for failure points and worsened patient outcomes. By promoting communication, coordination, and consistency of care in each step of the patient journey, IDNs can maximize total value and achieve improved outcomes across the board.
