Member Benefit of the Month: Educating Leaders of Tomorrow

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela

Providing employees with a path to grow themselves and enhance their knowledge and skillsets to better your operation is one of the most important investments you can make in your company. You have the direct benefit of the greater impact they have on your operation, plus the indirect benefit of building loyalty and mutual respect with your employee. As you develop your employees, you are also building your "bench” of future leaders ready to rise up in your organization.

ALM offers educational programs for employees working across your organization, from the technicians who work on your wash floor or deliver your linen, to the supervisors and team leads, to the managers and directors. Each program is specially designed to engage them at their current level of knowledge and provide them with an overall operational understanding so they’ll know how important what they do is to quality outcomes and efficiencies.

Now offering three certification programs, the Certified Laundry and Linen Manager (CLLM), the Mastery of Healthcare Linen Management (MHLM) and the Registered Laundry and Linen Director (RLLD), ALM is a leader in identifying accomplished individuals. These certifications recognize individuals with an advanced knowledge of the overall operations of laundry operations and linen management.

The CLLM certification identifies managers in the textile care services industry who have achieved a verified level of knowledge in laundry and linen operations. This program gives vast insight into textile selection, linen management, equipment selection and maintenance, productivity, safety, infection prevention, quality improvement, and employee relations. It is a challenging course, offered both online and in a self-paced, self-study format, that provides a well-rounded base of knowledge about laundry operation. The CLLM is one of the most recognized certifications in the industry and is a minimum educational requirement for many government contracts.

The MHLM certification is the only program in the market that addresses the field of linen management, providing certification candidates with a thorough understanding of textile selection, managing laundry contracts, improving utilization, methods of linen distribution, infection prevention and the wash process, regulations, and the QAPI process. This program benefits both those who work in customer facing roles in the laundry and those who work directly in linen distribution. Having that level of understanding on both sides of the laundry/linen relationship benefits everyone involved.

The RLLD certification, the highest distinction, identifies the industry’s top professionals who have proven expertise in directing highly efficient, safe and quality driven textile care services operations. Instead of a set curriculum for the RLLD exam, applicants are expected to pull from their experience in the textile care service industry. However, an excellent review and/or preparatory class would be the Laundry & Linen College from ALM, the premiere resource for laundry training and education for over 30 years.

Participants of the Laundry & Linen College learn not only from the instructors, but from each other, sharing ideas and finding new ways of meeting or exceeding their strategic goals. The program is divided into two distinctive tracks – Laundry Processing and Operations, typically held in the fall and scheduled for November 6-10, 2023, and Textile Care Services, which covers topics specific to linen management and is held in the spring. Each track consists of a full week of live-instruction and a hands-on project that is designed to pull together the knowledge and information gained throughout the week by solving an issue that simulates one that may be encountered on the job.

The Laundry & Linen College is recognized internationally for developing skilled, informed, and accomplished laundry professionals, and has provided training in laundry processing and linen distribution and utilization for individuals in the U.S. and abroad.

We know the market for finding skilled and high-achieving employees is competitive, so why not develop them from within?
