William “Bill” Webb died on May 11. Bill was actively involved in ALM's previous iteration, NAILM, and was a regular speaker in the early days of the American Laundry and Linen College (now the Laundry & Linen College.)
Our thoughts are with Bill's family and friends.

JET Expo, taken over by Messe Frankfurt France last December, assembled all those active in the textile care sector at Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, May 19-21. The program of lectures provided visitors with insights into current topics dominating an industry that is undergoing radical change.

Colmac Industries is pleased to announce the addition of Alex Tang to their research and development team. He will be working with the Colmac team of engineers to create new innovative products, as well as finding ways to improve and create products to assist laundries in their garment finishing departments.

Continental Girbau Inc. (Continental) recently promoted Alessander Marinho, of Oshkosh, Wis., to Girbau Industrial (GI) technical service field manager–North America. In his new role, he is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the onsite project management and technical support services required for the installation, commissioning and training of GI laundry equipment in North America.

Shawn James joined Maple Springs Laundry on May 13, as general manager. Shawn was formerly general manager with Crothall Laundry Services.
Lee Bell, current general manager at Maple Springs Laundry, will be retiring in March 2020 after 40 years of service.

In addition, Clark and the board of directors recently named Douglas Story as president of sales and marketing, effective May 20. Story’s 32-year career in chemical services has involved him in leading a wide range of global and domestic diversified chemical services operations. His past responsibilities have included research and development, marketing, manufacturing, and sales and distribution development. His leadership roles in these areas have given him the broad scope of experience necessary to be an important player in the future growth of UNX. Most recently, Story was vice president of corporate support for a global laundry chemical services organization.

VEGA Systems B.V. of Oss, the Netherlands, has appointed Jim (James) Shaw as president of its VEGA Systems USA division. Shaw is a longtime industry veteran with decades of experience. Through the years, his previous positions with equipment manufacturers in the industry has been instrumental in both the development of equipment offerings and subsequent company growth.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in conjunction with the American Chemical Society (ACS), has selected Washing Systems to receive the 2019 Green Chemistry Challenge Award. “As a recipient of this prestigious award, Washing Systems is distinguished at the national level as an innovator in green chemistry,” commented Tracy C. Williamson, Ph.D. (Chief, Industrial Chemistry Branch EPA).
