Most inspections are unannounced, even if they are not random.
In addition, some workplaces invite OSHA to conduct programmed inspections at their facilities as a proactive measure to prevent accidents. If an investigator finds issues during the visit, they provide guidance and allow time to correct the shortcomings, leading to better conditions and demonstrating to OSHA the employer’s commitment to a safe workplace.
