From April 14 to 15, 2025, safety and damage prevention professionals will come together in Breaking the Ice, Building a Stronger Community at the 2025 Utility Safety Conference at the JW Marriott in Edmonton. This two-day conference kicks off with training opportunities offered at a discount by our partners in USP’s Training Standards Committee. Attendees who register for the Ground Disturbance 101, Ground Disturbance 201, or Locating 101 course will receive an industry recognized certificate of completion at the end of the course.

Following these training courses, USP’s Best Practices Committee, Education & Awareness Committee, and Training Standards Committee will host committee meetings. These volunteer committees are comprised of representatives from a variety of damage prevention stakeholder groups and all USP members are welcome to participate. If you are interested in joining a committee and are curious if their current projects and goals are a good fit for you, attend a meeting and see how you can contribute to safety initiatives across Alberta.

The first day concludes with the Opening Reception and Awards Dinner. The opening reception will be hosted on the tradeshow floor where attendees will have the opportunity to network with other safety professionals and chat with industry vendors about the newest products and services contributing to utility safety. USP’s 2024 Excavator of the Year, Locator of the Year, and Member of the Year will be announced and celebrated at the awards dinner following the opening reception.

The second day of the conference includes multiple educational sessions demonstrating the latest advancements in safety and damage prevention. Attendees can choose from sessions that explore new software and technology, current standards and best practices, effective communication methods, updated damage prevention practices, and more. Session details will be added to the event schedule in the coming weeks.

Attendees will be treated to a plenary address from Big Daddy Tazz – a Canadian comedian who raises awareness through advocacy and laughter about how mental health stigma affects us all. Tazz will bring us through a humourous journey of life’s triumphs and tribulations through the eyes of someone living and coping with mental illness. Tazz has participated in the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, the Moncton Comedy Festival, CBC’s The Debaters, and more!

All event details and registration links can be found on USP’s website. Register today and secure your spot. We look forward to seeing you there!
