A Closer Look at UPS’ Contact Centre Operations
October 2021

Typically, when one pictures October, thoughts turn to Halloween, falling leaves, and Canadian Thanksgiving (set back a very reasonable 2.5 months from Christmas, giving solid time to breathe between large family gatherings). Dark mornings, the browning grass crystalline and lightened with frost. Winterizing large equipment and storing it away for the long winter ahead.

It seems however, in 2021 that at least a couple of these things did not happen. Though we are (finally) starting to see the weather turn, the first three weeks of October were downright unseasonal! Warm days, 20 C temperatures, bright sunlight and the continued digging, pounding, trenching and coring that keeps both professional excavators and unprofessional homeowners busy while there is still time. Of course, this means that even after fully transitioning into our new all-encompassing persona, Utility Safety Partners (USP) is still quite busy. In fact, numbers are shaping up for this to be our biggest October in years.

Of course, the weather is not wholly responsible for this surge, there has certainly been an increased focus and interest in the service since Alberta One-Call merged its operations with the Alberta Common Ground Alliance and the Where’s The Line? campaign, forming a utility safety super-group the likes of which have not been seen since Journey or Bad Company (they were all about safety, right?). Jointly promoting damage prevention both above ground and below, while retaining the key guidance of industry specialists, allows the USP to pivot toward a more encompassing support experience for excavators in Alberta.

Our Contact Centre is looking toward a much more robust and engaging user experience, with a strong focus on putting the tools in place for excavators to dig safely, while having substantial resources and effective help at short notice; literally a fingertip away. In 2022, USP will continue to support Albertans in their excavation process and ensure they have everything they need to complete their projects.

Above ground or below, USP will continue to support the safety of all contractors in Alberta
