’Twas the Night Before Christmas: A Damage Prevention Tale

Mike Sullivan - President - Utility Safety Partners

’Twas the night before Christmas, when across all the ground,
No dig site was active, no digging, no sound.

The cones were all set by the curb with great care,
In hopes that no accidents would linger there.

The crews were all nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of safe digs danced in their heads.

With maps in hand and paint cans so bright,
They knew the importance of staying in sight.

When out on the street there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

Away to the window, I flew with great speed,
Tore open the shutters to see what I’d see.

The glow of headlights on the freshly plowed snow,
Gave the luster of midday to a dig site below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a hard-working locator in full safety gear!

With a comforting nod to my window, and a tip of the hardhat,
The locator got busy locating this and locating that.

With the damage prevention process adhered to and clear,
I returned to my slumber feeling safe and secure.

You see, no dig is too small and no dig is too big,
