PHTA UPDATES

PHTA has created an informational flyer about the trichlor shortage that includes background on the issue and suggestions for how to keep pools healthy and safe. This flyer can be used as a "customer communications tool" to share with your customers. There is space on the flyer for you to add your company logo and contact information.

Join Sabeena Hickman, PHTA President & CEO, and Olympian Rowdy Gaines, PHTA Vice President of Partnerships & Development, as they explore the importance of swimming and creating 1 million more swimmers through the Step Into Swim initiative.

Our first episode aired this week! Rowdy speaks to Cammile Adams, who competed in the 200-meter butterfly event at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Cammile discusses how her fame at an early age shaped her life today as the owner of SafeSplash Swim Schools in the Houston area, where she continues to focus on creating safe, happy, and confident lifelong swimmers.

The Step Into Swim Podcast is available on the PHTA website, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify.

The PHTA Board of Directors recently committed to donating $500,000 to Step Into Swim, PHTA's drowning prevention initiative. One hundred percent of these funds will go straight to learn-to-swim programs that have applied for Step Into Swim grants in recent years. By distributing the money in this way, the Board of Directors is immediately making an impact on saving lives through the gift of swim lessons.
PHTA volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Our volunteers help PHTA and the industry as a whole by sharing great ideas, making plans, and developing programs. We are looking for volunteers for both councils and committees for the next leadership year. Terms begin November 2021.

If you are ready to offer up your expertise and make a difference in the industry, apply now! The deadline is June 15. For more information or to submit your application via email, please contact Amy Cannon, PHTA's Director of Councils & Chapters.

Employers are debating whether or not to require their employees to get the COVID vaccine. More vaccinations would protect others and bring us closer to herd immunity, but employers could face backlash and even litigation. For now, most employers are hoping that encouragement—not requirement—will be enough.
INDUSTRY NEWS

The increase in materials pricing is a key topic of conversation in the construction industry. The National Association of Home Builders estimates that the price of lumber has increased by more than 180% since last spring, and CNN recently announced that steel prices are sitting at a record high that is nearly triple the 20-year average. Couple that with an industry that has seen a surge of demand in the past year, and you’ve got a perfect storm facing pool builders across the country.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says that 71% of all contractors are experiencing at least one product shortage, with top reported material shortages in wood/lumber, steel, and pipe/PVC.

And, unfortunately, experts don’t expect the pricing in these materials to drop anytime soon.

PHTA suggests that builders proactively address these issues with their customers:

  • Communicate to your customers about longer lead times
  • Inform your customers about the increases in materials pricing
  • Share information that you receive from your manufacturers and distributors about material issues

Join the conversation on my.PHTA.org and let us know about ways you are letting your customers know about these issues.
