AATA News
By Jordan Potash, PhD, ATR-BC, REAT, LCPAT (MD) LCAT (MD), Editor in Chief of Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy In 2023, Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association was recognized with an impact factor of 1.3 by Clarviate—putting Art Therapy on par with other social science journals that are hybrid research and practice, as well as competitive with other journals closely aligned with our profession. Building on this acclaim, in 2024, I along with our team of associate editors and peer reviewers are looking forward to another year of expanding our readership and the breadth of topics covered by our authors. This year, we are transitioning to an all-digital journal. This shift will afford new opportunities for article styles, options for how to present content, multimedia features, and other innovations. What will stay the same is the quality of the publication. And for those who still prefer a print version, readers can purchase the full volume (all four issues) in a bound book. Additionally, I’m eager to introduce you to the newly appointed Editor Designee, Emily Goldstein Nolan, DAT, ATR-BC, LPC, LCAT. Emily will be the journal’s next Editor-in-Chief when my term ends at the end of this year. Emily has served as Associate Editor for Book Reviews since 2018 and brings experience as a published author herself. We will work closely together over this year to ensure a smooth transition when Emily formally takes over on January 1, 2025.
Join David Gussak, PhD, ATR-BC, and Bani Malhotra, PhD, ATR-BC, for the 3rd session in our Three-Part Supervision Continuing Education Series. Harmonizing Perspectives: Fostering and Nourishing an Inclusive Mentoring Dynamic in Art Therapy will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 7 – 9 p.m. ET. In this third session, Dr. David Gussak and Dr. Bani Malhotra will draw upon their past collaborations to discuss the differences between supervision and mentoring while clarifying the particular value and benefits of a co-evolving mentoring dynamic. The potential challenges and opportunities of a mentoring relationship between people of different cultural identities will be further explored. If you missed the first two sessions, you can still take advantage of the bundle discount and watch the series on demand.

During this session, Bani and David Gussak will draw upon their past collaborations to discuss the differences between supervision and mentoring while clarifying the particular value and benefits of a co-evolving mentoring dynamic.
If you are an AATA member with an ATR-BC, join us as a volunteer to review proposals submitted. Email Jeffrey Powers St-Aubin, AATA Events and Continuing Education Manager, at jpowers@arttherapy.org to volunteer. Most proposals will undergo a blind review process (with the exception of advanced practice workshop and video submissions). Reviewers are typically assigned approximately 15 proposals and have approximately three weeks to complete the work. The entire review process is completed online.
