AATA News

In this virtual Continuing Education session hosted by Gabriela Osorio Fajardo, MTFS, MTA, participants will learn how to begin their own art piece or a traditional Mexican huipil by exploring five key questions that deepen the symbolism behind stitches and colors. We will examine various examples of embroidery and textile-based activities, discussing how each can be integrated into clinical practice.

Additionally, the session will provide a brief overview of the history of embroidery and community projects in Mexico, where embroidery holds profound cultural and emotional significance.

Please join us for our next virtual All-Member Meeting on Sept. 25, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. ET. AATA President Nadia Parades and transformational change expert Sharon Newport will dedicate the entire meeting on an important topic: Evolving Our Culture with DEI Lenses. They will then facilitate a dialogue with AATA leaders and members about leading with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

We have extended this All-Member Meeting to two hours so that we will also have ample time to learn from Sharon Newport’s vast experience in transformative organizational change—and share and learn from each other. Attendees may receive 1 CE credit for participating in the DEI training session.

→ If your membership has lapsed, we hope you'll renew via MyAATA to be a part of this critical conversation.

The Multicultural Quilt is an annual project undertaken by the Multicultural Committee—and a core part of the Annual Conference experience. Each year in the Annual Conference Open Art Studio, participants select muslin pieces and use their artistic expression to design quilt pieces that “embrace diversity piece-by-piece.” After each piece is collected, it is later stitched together to make the final quilt that showcases the diversity and collaborative nature of our organization. This final product is then raffled off at the following year’s conference.

Member Corner

The Call for Nominations is officially open for five positions on AATA’s Board of Directors and on Nominations Committee Member!

Would you (or someone you know) bring valuable experience, unique perspective, and creative thinking to the AATA Board of Directors? The Nominations Committee is looking for broad representation of AATA’s membership and the art therapy community to help propel the association and profession forward. As art therapy gains recognition, our member-leaders are vital in charting a course toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and welcoming organization and community.

As an AATA member, you have the unique opportunity to display your artwork in the 2024 Member Art Slideshow Exhibition! The slideshow exhibition will be viewable at AATA2024 in Pittsburgh prior to the Plenary Sessions and on continuous rotation on monitors outside the ballroom and session rooms throughout the conference. Artwork will also be used during the Virtual Conference (Oct. 26 – 27) and throughout the year during AATA virtual meetings.

Submission Deadline Sept. 27, 2024
