![]() We are pleased to announce our 2025 Ethics Continuing Education virtual series! Join presenters Anna O’Brien, LPC, ATR-BC; Deborah Fung, LCAT, ATR-BC, LMSW; Lacy Mucklow, MA, ATR-BC; LPAT-S, LCPAT, ATCS, CCTP, CIMHP; Gretchen M. Miller, MA, LPAT, ATR-BC; Alicia Seymour, MA, ATR-P, NCC; and Heather Grey, LCSW, LCAT, ATR-BC, ATCS for a three-part series focusing on the ethical use of self-disclosure and clinical referrals. Ethical decision-making is at the core of every art therapist’s practice, yet navigating the complexities of referrals, self-disclosure, and social media engagement can present ongoing challenges. Through expert-led discussions, interactive role-plays, and hands-on art experientials, this series will provide clinicians with practical tools and frameworks to make ethical, informed choices while maintaining therapeutic integrity. This three-part series will take place from 7–9 p.m. ET on three Tuesdays in February and April, with each session focusing on a key ethical challenge in clinical practice.
There is a little over a week left to make a public comment on Virginia's Proposed Art Therapy Regulations. The Public comment period closes February 14 and can be used to provide feedback and support for the regulations. Once the comment period closes, members of the public will have the opportunity to attend a public hearing scheduled for January 24 at the Department of Health Professions in Henrico. Members of the Virginia Art Therapy Association are encouraging art therapists and members of the public to write comments that support the regulation, share perspectives from art therapists or art therapy students in the state, or make sensible suggestions for change (if any).

![]() ![]() As we honor Black History Month, we celebrate the Black visionary architects of art therapy. This February, AATA is offering an inspiring virtual Continuing Education session, Black History Continues – The Future of the Field, at no cost to all AATA Members. Non-members are welcome to watch this session at a discounted rate of $30. Participants may earn 1.5 CE credits. Hosted by Louvenia Jackson, PhD, LMFT, ATR-BC, and a panel of Black art therapy students, the session introduces legendary Black art therapists. The panelists also share their experiences as Black art therapy students and their vision of the future of the field.
If you’re an AATA member with an ATR-BC, we hope you’ll volunteer to review proposals submitted for the annual In-Person and Virtual conferences! We need reviewers from a variety of backgrounds and work experiences to ensure that our learning opportunity programming is diverse and inclusive. All proposals will undergo a blind review process with the exception of advanced practice workshop and video submissions. Each submission will be reviewed and rated by three ATR-BC-credentialed AATA members. Reviewers are typically assigned approximately 10-15 proposals and have approximately three weeks to complete the work. The entire review process is completed online. If you’re interested in volunteering as a proposal reviewer, please email Jeff, AATA's Events and Continuing Education Manager at conference@arttherapy.org.
