Scholarship Applications – Due June 30
Do you know a student who could use help with their finances for post-secondary? Let them know that BCEA's scholarship and bursary applications are due by June 30 to be considered for this year's awards.

Betty Lou Education Relief Fund applications are due Oct. 31. 

All children and grandchildren of BCEA Members, as well as members themselves, are eligible to apply. Find out more and download the application at the link below.
Energy Manager Canada Awards
Energy Manager Canada’s EM Honours awards program recognizes excellence in energy efficiency and decarbonization across Canada’s built environment, and anyone involved in a project or solution can Nominate. The EM Honours awards program has expanded this year to include several new categories—in addition to the flagship award, Energy Manager of the Year—to better recognize energy efficiency efforts across the industry.

EM Honours award categories:
• Best New-Build Project
• Best Retrofit Project
• Best Electrical Solution (presented by Electrical Business magazine)
• Best HVACR/Plumbing Solution (presented by HPAC magazine)
• Best Building Envelope Solution (presented by Glass Canada)
• Most Innovative Solution (selected from among the Electrical, HVACR/Plumbing and Building Envelope categories)
• Energy Manager of the Year

A committee of judges will review the submissions, and select award recipients based on the submitted nominations.

Morgan Creek Golf Tournament – July 16
BCEA's golf tournaments are back this summer. Our next tournament is July 16 at Morgan Creek in Surrey, with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.

This year there will be a chance to win a $1,500 cash prize at this tournament! Your ticket cost includes a lunch voucher, golf cart, golf fee, and an awards dinner.

Crown Isle Golf Tournament – Sept. 10
The BC Electrical Association, along with the Island committee, will hold a North Island golf tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Tee times start at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 1:30 p.m. Only 60 golfers can take part in this tournament.

Following your round, you will have the opportunity to network with your peers at the awards dinner. Golf fees are $250 for members and $350 for non-members and include a golf cart and dinner.

Lower Mainland Trade Show – Oct. 22
BCEA is continuing to bring back our trade shows this year! Our next show will be at the Show Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Vancouver on Tuesday Oct. 22 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be an educational seminar with Joel Feenstra at 11:00 a.m. on the topic of the changes and updates to the 2024 Electrical code from CSA.

Exhibitors can purchase a 10x10 booth with pipe, drape, and power included at the link below. Booths are $975 for members and $1,200 for non-members.

Former BC Attorney General Barry Penner warns of pressures faced by BC Hydro

Barry Penner, a former BC Attorney General and current resident of Chilliwack brings attention to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation's 2024 Summer Reliability Assessment, which states that  “above-normal demand that coincides with low hydro output could result in a reserve shortage” this summer.

Growth in Langley powered by clean, affordable electricity
BC Hydro will spend approximately $725 million in capital construction throughout Langley over the next decade to upgrade and expand the electricity grid and provide clean power for homes and businesses in growing communities.

Trip through the wires: Electricity data, past and present
The High-Frequency Electricity Data (HFED) visualization tool was recently launched on the Canadian Centre for Energy Information (CCEI) website. Depending on data availability, this tool provides users with comprehensive access to provincial electricity data for a number of variables (such as load, demand, and generation), and in near real-time.
