On July 8th, a group of members volunteered at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, organized by BCEA's Women's Network. One of our speakers at THRIVE was Terra Paredes from GVFB so we thought it only fitting to organize a volunteer day to give back to this wonderful organization. Our group packed 1,000 pre-school age food kits in under three hours! Thank you to all our volunteers: Olivia Rock, Nicole Logan, Lynne White, Kelly Vugteveen, Jenny Sparkes, Diana Nguyen, Beth Beardsley, Anton Donets, and Sidhartha Singh!
Member Company Sonepar announced on July 3rd that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Robertson Electric Wholesale. Founded in 1952 and headquartered in Vaughan, Ontario, Robertson Electric Wholesale has grown to be a highly respected electrical distributor across Canada with 19 branches and over 400 associates. The acquisition is scheduled to close within the next two months subject to regulatory approval. Until that time, the companies will continue to operate independently. Annual General Meeting - July 24

Holding an AGM is a requirement as a non-profit association in BC. Crown Isle Golf Tournament – Sept. 10
The BC Electrical Association, along with the Island committee, will hold a North Island golf tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Tee times start at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 1:30 p.m. Only 60 golfers can take part in this tournament, so get your tickets quick! Following your round, you will have the opportunity to network with your peers at the awards dinner. Golf fees are $250 for members and $350 for non-members and include a golf cart and dinner. Lower Mainland Trade Show – Oct. 22
BCEA is continuing to bring back our trade shows this year! Our next show will be at the Show Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Vancouver on Tuesday Oct. 22 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be an educational seminar with Joel Feenstra at 11:00 a.m. on the topic of the changes and updates to the 2024 Electrical code from CSA. Energy-based pricing is coming to FortisBC Inc.'s electric vehicle charging stations as of August 1, 2024, shifting the pricing model from a per-minute cost to a usage-based rate that ensure that drivers pay for the actual amount of energy consumed.The change guarantees a uniform rate for electricty usage, unrelated to the rate of charging speed.
