Safety was the theme of the day, and the Builders Association’s Spring Summit held last month made the most of it. This year’s Safety Awards Program winners were honored and Mark Briggs, Vice President of Safety Management Resources Corporation, delivered the keynote on "Safety as a Profit Center." A networking reception kicked off the event which featured another signature Maggiano’s luncheon.
Briggs touched on the connection between sales and safety, and preparing in advance for the underwriters. He conveyed the value of safety professionals receiving sales training to better enable them to not only sell your firm’s safety initiatives to your employees, but to sell your safety program to the underwriters in charge of auditing your business. If that entity is not informed of your progress in terms of safety, it will assume you are doing very little. Additionally, all employees must be educated on the importance of safety programs. Of course, companies are committed to each and every employee going home safely at the end of the workday, yet they should understand that time lost due to jobsite accidents costs a company real dollars.
BA Safety & Health Committee Chairman Dan Ruane spoke briefly about the safety programs offered by the Association and how pleased the Association was to recognize so many companies for making safety a priority.
