Bulley & Andrews, a longtime Builders Association member, had the distinction of running one of the most unusual and complex projects of 2014.
The historic Harriet F. Rees House, the last structure standing on the 2100 block of south Prairie Avenue, needed to be relocated to make way for part of the new McCormick Place entertainment district. Bulley & Andrews was chosen to oversee the relocation of the 762-ton landmark structure one city block north and across the street from 2110 S. Prairie Ave. to 2017 S. Prairie Ave.
The three-story residence, built in 1888, required 32 remote-controlled hydraulic dollies with 232 wheels to complete the 600-foot move. With all of the necessary equipment, the building weighed approximately 1,050 tons and took two days to move and reposition.
The Association congratulates Bulley & Andrews on this successful move of historic proportions.
