Important Information for Our Members Who Have Attained the CM-BIM Credential:
As outlined in the updated CM-BIM Candidate Guide, the CM-BIM Certificate is awarded for an initial period of five (5) years. Prior to the five year anniversary, all CM-BIM holders are required to earn ten (10) hours of BIM-related continuing education (CE) hours during the previous two years in order to maintain the CM-BIM Credential. For example, if an individual earned the CM-BIM Certificate on September 12, 2012, the credential would be valid until September 12, 2017. During that time period the CM-BIM holder would be required to submit 10 hours of BIM related CE hours earned between September 12, 2015 and September 12, 2017 to the CM-BIM Administrator in order to maintain the CM-BIM credential.
Following the initial five year renewal period, all subsequent CM-BIM renewals will be on a three year cycle.
CM-BIM holders will be required to submit 30 hours of BIM-related CE hours earned during the previous three years (dating back to the last CM-BIM renewal date) in order to maintain the CM-BIM credential.
CM-BIM holders will have numerous opportunities to earn BIM-related CE hours. The following is a list of potential opportunities to earn CE hours, as well as the Continuing Education Guidelines for earning CE hours.
- Attending BIMForum conferences or webinars
- Attending BIM-related programs at AGCA sponsored conferences or webinars
- Attending BIM-related programs at AGC Chapter sponsored conferences or webinars
- Instructing AGC BIM Education Program (BIM EP) courses as an approved BIM EP instructor
- Attending BIM-related software training, classes or seminars
- Attending BIM-related sessions or classes at non-AGC conferences such as those held by the Construction Owners Association of America (COAA), Construction Users Roundtable (CURT), American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) or other organizations
- Presenting at a conference or other event on a BIM related topic
- All activities must be BIM-related
- One (1) hour of BIM related programming = One (1) CE hour
- CE credit will be given only for a specific BIM session/program, not for an entire conference that also contains non-BIM-related content
- CE credit may be earned anytime from the date appearing on a CM-BIM certificate through the date the credential expires
- No CE credit may carry over from one renewal period to the next
- Renewal forms are due to the CM-BIM Administrator by the end of the anniversary month
- CM-BIM holders may submit their CE credits as they earn them by uploading the form along with any supporting material to the renewal website. CM-BIM holders will receive an email from the CM-BIM Administrator within a week regarding whether the credits were accepted, rejected or if more information is needed.
Individuals may submit their Continuing Education hours through the CM-BIM Renewal webpage as hours are earned.
