The Builders Education & Training Foundation is excited to offer another round of Units 1-5 of the Lean Education Program. Lean Education courses aim to help construction professionals acquire the building blocks necessary to transform their projects and companies into lean operating systems. Individuals will be eligible to take the Lean Certificate of Management Credentialing Exam after successful completion of all seven units. Registration is available online or by completing this form. Each unit is open for registration to the first 20 participants.
UNIT 1: VARIATION IN PRODUCTION SYSTEMS
Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
In the construction process, the work we do is all connected and
variation in even one of those processes affects us all. This course
provides tools to help participants recognize sources of variation on
their own projects, examine variation’s effect on operations, and
mitigate the effects of variation in their everyday work.
UNIT 2: PULL IN PRODUCTION
Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 12:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
After completion of this course, participants will have the ability to
compare batch-and-queue and continuous-flow production systems,
distinguish push systems from pull systems, describe the impact of pull
on production systems, and explain pull strategies in construction
operations.
UNIT 3: LEAN WORKSTRUCTURING
Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 7:30 a.m.to 12 p.m.
Within construction, we all strive to plan our projects in a way that
produces predictable workflow and continuous improvement. This course
provides participants with the tools needed to apply Lean
Workstructuring principles within The Last Planner® System.
UNIT 4: THE LAST PLANNER® SYSTEM
Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 12:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This course shows how to conduct make-ready and weekly work planning
sessions. Participants will learn how to apply LPS on a project and how
to calculate, track and analyze percent plan completion for a project.
UNIT 5: LEAN SUPPLY CHAIN & ASSEMBLY
Friday, March 4, 2016 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Unit 5 will examine the use of lean supply chain practices to eliminate
waste through the creation of efficient methods for procurement of
materials and equipment and the use of lean assembly practices to find
ways of assembling things in the most efficient way possible—either on
site or off site.
INSTRUCTORS
Units 1 & 2 will be taught by Rich Seiler, Chief Improvement Officer for Unified Works and Co-Chair of LCI Chicago.
Units 3-5 will be taught by Mark Federle, PhD, McShane Chair of
Construction Engineering and Management at Marquette University.
Be sure to register as soon as possible, as all units are restricted to
a small number of participants. All units will take place at the
Carpenters Training Center (1256 Estes Ave., Elk Grove Village, IL).
