Free Silica Rule Webinar Offering Through Construction Safety Council
Corkill Insurance Agency, Inc. is hosting a free webinar on OSHA's New Silica Rule through the Construction Safety Council that will take place from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, April 12th.
Crystalline silica has been listed as a carcinogen by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) since 1997, and National Toxicology Program (NTP) since 2000. In addition to lung cancer, crystalline silica is known to cause silicosis, COPD, tuberculosis, and renal disease.
OSHA's long-awaited Silica Rule was published last March. The New Rule will affect a wide range of industries including:
- Construction
- Glass manufacturing
- Pottery products
- Structural clay products
- Concrete products
- Foundries
- Dental laboratories
- Paintings and coatings
- Jewelry production
- Refractory products
- Ready-mix concrete
- Cut stone and stone products
- Abrasive blasting in maritime, construction, and general industry
- Refractory furnace installation and repair
- Railroad transportation
- Oil and gas operations
When the standard took effect last June, employers were given one to five (1-5) years to comply with most requirements based on OSHA's timeline for Construction, General Industry, and Hydraulic Fracturing (aka "Fracking").
As we draw closer to the June 23, 2017 enforcement date, it is imperative to be aware of how to proper compliance to the rule. Topics for this webinar include:
- history of the standard,
- exposure limits,
- exposure assessment,
- medical surveillance, and
- practical compliance recommendations.
