This year’s Holiday Luncheon promises both Association traditions and a holiday gift of entertainment that will be remembered for many years.
Honoring Leadership on Many Fronts
We begin with the installation of our new officers for 2016, administered the oath of office by BOMA International Vice Chairman Robert Brierley.
Also on the agenda is the awarding of Lifetime membership to Peter L. Di Capua, who served our membership as President from 1993 to 1994, and was very active in BOMA International as well for more than a decade. Conferring the honors will be BOMA International President Henry Chamberlain, in token of Peter’s outstanding service to BOMA at all levels.
In a tradition that extends back to 1971, we also honor fellow New Yorkers whose commitment and dedication has improved the quality of our lives in this great city, through our Civic Betterment Award. Nominees for that award include: Alan Reiss of the Port Authority of NY & NJ, Amber Charter School, Avenue of the Americas Association, Encore Community Services, New York City Fire Museum, Sharon hart of Cushman & Wakefield, Inc., the Interchurch Center, and The Mercy Home for Children.
And once the business of honoring the best is done, it is time for a breathtaking performance of movement, passion, paint and music.
The Spectacular Stages of David Garibaldi’s Rhythm and Hue
As a turbulent California teen passionately inspired by both music and art, David Garibaldi was driven to use his hands and body to create larger-than-life canvases of urban graffiti. He practiced his art as a graffiti rebel in his garage, but it was not until he witnessed performance painter Denny Dent’s spectacular feat of capturing the likeness of Jimi Hendrix, that Garibaldi realized his own calling. In a very short time, he has fused together the two driving forces of his life to create a career projectile that has taken him to stages across the world.
Today, his Rhythm and Hue live shows have been seen by hundreds of thousands worldwide, including those mesmerized by his performance on America’s Got Talent, and at the age of 29, the high school drop-out has already raised more than $1,000,000 for charity through his bravura performances.
"I create images in an entertaining way, and my hope is to inspire the audience to use their passion to benefit and inspire others," he says. "That is music and color. That is rhythm and hue." Inspiring Garibaldi are musicians and performers as diverse as U2, the Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Kanye West, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Glitch Mob and smooth jazz. Artists that have guided his imagination are similarly diverse, from Andy Warhol to Takashi Muramaki, Al Hirschfield and the comic books of his youth.
As Garibaldi now leads his life with passion and purpose, he continually finds new images and musical passages to inspire him. His work now is featured in galleries nationwide, and is being branded into posters, clothing and phone cases.
And on Dec. 11, he will literally unveil all his talents before our very eyes.
As you can imagine, seats and tables are selling out very quickly, so purchase your tickets or tables for this very special luncheon here today. |
