On April 7, BOMA/NY’s Energy Action Day will tackle the largest energy and sustainability challenge of our time: NYC’s multi-faceted, multi-decade undertaking known as 80X50. Through this ambitious plan, the City plans to reduce 43 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere by 2050 and make New York’s air the cleanest of any major American city.

With 25 million metric tons of that reduction coming from buildings, BOMA/NY’s Energy & Sustainability Committee has engineered a seminar to answer the questions you’re asking. And that means we have every dimension of real estate covered.

To give you an overview and understanding of the scope and intent of 80X50, we’re kicking off with a keynote by the City’s key executive spearheading the plan—Nilda Mesa, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability.

Then you’ll hear from our panel of experts on how 80X50 will affect real estate from the perspectives of owners, managers, architects, construction experts, sustainability and energy professionals, the utilities, and more.

Some of the questions we’ll be posing to the panel:

What’s the latest technology to achieve energy efficiency that will allow owners to
reduce usage further?

What are the operational costs and paybacks?

What are the financial incentives
available in the marketplace?

Will building design and/or construction change because of 80X50?

How do we work with tenants to achieve these targets?

How does 80X50 affect sub-metering and demand management?

The panel, which is now being assembled, already includes: Daniel F. Egan, LEED AP from Vornado Realty Trust, to discuss the operational perspective; Ilana Judah, AIA of FXFowle, a member of the City’s 80X50 Technical Working Group and John Shipman of Con Edison’s Demand Management, Customer Engagement and Electric Vehicle Programs.

Energy Action Day will be held from 8 am to 10:30 am on April 7 at Club 101. The cost includes continental breakfast and is $125 for members and $180 for non-members. Electronic invites have been emailed, but if you’ve missed yours, please register here.
