The Buildings Show is Back with Two Timely Seminars from Your BOMA/NY Colleagues

This year's BUILDINGSNY trade show and exhibition is back at the Javits Center a month earlier–running March 19-20. And once again, it has been tailored to your needs with exhibitions, seminars and networking opportunities that will open up your management vistas. This seminar brings together the talents of two professionals representing the ownership perspective–Kevin McGrath of Boston Properties and Joseph Szabo of Tishman Speyer–with commissioning agent specialist and engineer ,Charles Marino of AKF Consulting Engineers. Moderating is Tom Krol of Donnelly Mechanical Contracting, who will draw on his hands-on experience of energy audits, conservation programs and more.

It’s "how to" approach will guide you through the Energy Audit/Retro-commissioning process from start to finish. Content starts with the very first step of how to hire a consultant, and walks you through undertaking the rebate program, data compilation, conducting the audit, analyzing/interpreting the results, structuring and enacting a retro-commissioning program, plan verification, and finalizing the report. Also covered will be how to file the report with the Department of Buildings, and all related filing procedures.

Privately owned public spaces (POPS) became front page news with the #Occupy Wall Street movement and to help you understand the responsibilities of ownership–which extend far beyond the usual–this seminar not only imparts valuable lessons learned, but takes you through the basics of legal responsibilities, media management, internal communications and more. Led by BOMA/NY Vice President Ronald S. Zeccardi, the panel includes John Osborn, Esq. of Osborn Law, Neil Spadaro of Boston Properties, John Farrell of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and Russell Touhey of Brookfield Properties.

The experienced panelists will cover the rules and regulations behind NYC’s POPS; responsibilities and interface with the NYPD and other governmental agencies; lessons learned from  the media relations, public image and social media battles of the #Occupy Wall Street experience; and the impact on building managers, from anticipating and preparing for such events in advance in terms of legal, management and communications issues, to how to handle internal decision making, establishing internal communication systems and protocols, tenant communications, media relations (social and traditional) and more.
