The Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the US
Green Building Council and one of our sister organizations in the New York commercial
real estate world, is now taking applications for the EBie Awards, which focus on building performance and individual
project successes revolving around sustainability, energy conservation, water
savings, lighting retrofits and more. The 8-category competition (see
categories below) primarily uses metrics as the judging criteria.
The submission deadline is March 30: All submissions are done online at www.ebies.org, where you can find all the entry
info you need.
All About the
EBies
Once you’ve gathered your metrics, it is estimated that the
submission uploading may take between 2 to 4 hours, the Urban Green Council
told BOMAfacts, with little to no written material required. Some categories
may ask for insights on the project, such as what was innovative or unique, or
what challenges were overcome and how will the lessons learned be incorporated
into the next project. Such insights will require written responses, which are
also submitted on line.
Any building with a good sustainability profile is
encouraged to apply, and past Pinnacle nominees are encouraged to review the
data compiled for the Energy and Environmental sections to see if it applies.
All buildings must have been completed by 2010, and the
project being submitted must have been completed by December 2013 to have
accumulated a year’s worth of metrics. There is no entry fee.
The categories—complete with their official, funky names—are:
1. The
All-Rounder: Performance Excellence in Multiple Categories (most
improved building across multiple categories)
2. All Together
Now: Performance Excellence Across a Portfolio (multiple sustainability
categories)
3. The Smooth
Operator: Operations and Maintenance Excellence (most
improvements achieved solely through operations, maintenance or retro-commissioning)
4. Power to the
People: Exceptional Energy Savings
5. Shine a
Light on Me: The Best Lighting Retrofit
6. Take Me to
the River: Winning Water Savings
