This letter says it all.
Coming at the close of the C40 Cities Climate
Leadership Group meeting in Paris, where world leaders had also gathered for an
historic discussion on climate change, there is good news indeed for NYC, and
to all in our industry, and our collaborative partners in the City government
that worked on the Buildings Technical Working Group to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions.
The months of collaborative work has put NYC
on top of all cities in the Building Energy Efficiency Category. Thanks to
all involved for the outstanding work and proving once again that when we
collaborate on a common goal, we all win.
Following is a letter from Nilda Mesa, Director
of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability.

Dear Technical Working Group Members,
I am reaching out to share the exciting news that the C40 Cities Climate
Leadership Group in Paris honored New York City, and all of you, for our work
to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in buildings. This year One City:
Built to Last and the Buildings Technical Working Group topped C40's Building
Energy Efficiency category.
Since 2013 the C40 Cities Awards have been presented to cities that are
delivering the innovative practices and programs necessary to reduce emissions
and improve sustainability around the world. It’s a highly competitive process
with third party reviewers. C40 recognized, as we do, that the strategies we
developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our buildings sector, and the
bold steps we're taking to reduce emissions eighty percent citywide are not
only advancing our goals here in New York, but resonating in cities around the
world.
If you’d like more information about the award,
the press release is available here and the awards page, including video of the ceremony, is available here.
I would like to thank every one of you for your contributions to these
efforts. As First Deputy Mayor Shorris said when he accepted the
award in Paris, it is hard work that must be done collectively, and we are
fortunate that New Yorkers are eager to engage in this work. I look
forward to seeing you on the 17th, and to the recommendations you are
developing for next month.
Sincerely,
Nilda Mesa
