Every four minutes, someone in the US is diagnosed with some form of blood cancer; the rates are even higher in New York, where more than 10,000 were diagnosed this past year. Yet many were not aware of the signs and symptoms until they received their diagnosis.
To help bring awareness and education to the public during September, National Blood Cancer Awareness Month, the Lymphoma Research Foundation is turning to the New York skyline to ask for a show of support for its cause.
A skyscraper lit in red can send a powerful message and BOMA/NY has agreed to partner with the Foundation by asking buildings with decorative lighting capabilities to "Light It Red" in a show of support for blood cancer awareness.
Not only will participants will be shedding light on a disease that has affected more than a half-million fellow Americans, they will be promoted in the media and on the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s website. If you are interested, please contact Peggy Ann Torney, Senior Manager of Public Affairs at the Lymphoma Research Foundation at ptorney@lymphoma.org.
And so that you can get credit in BOMAFACTs, make sure to let us know you are participating by contacting our Executive Director Bobbi McGowan, CAE at bobbimc@bomany.com.
Angelo Croce, a Vice President at Silverstein Properties and a member of BOMA/NY from 1983 until 1997, passed away in June and now rests in peace in Farmingville, Long island. He leaves behind a large extended family, including eight children, 18 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Our best wishes go out to his family and friends.
